Apollo Pickleball

Pickleball courts built as a complete system, from the base and surface through to nets, lighting and technology.

Apollo NZ supplies pickleball flooring, modular tiles, dedicated PFO outdoor pickleball surfacing, portable and semi-permanent roll-out surfaces, nets, lighting and sports technology for homes, clubs, schools, councils, retirement villages, resorts and commercial facilities. Surface choice should follow the site, drainage, playing feel, operating model and how often the court needs to move.

Technical overview

Build the court around the site

Apollo can supply individual products or combine them into a coordinated project package. The existing base, drainage, level of play, portability and installation method determine which surface path makes sense.

16Lighting
Anti-glare court lightingA representative Apollo court package uses four lights at approximately 6 m; final lighting design remains project-specific.
17Technology
VAKTAR AI 180180° panoramic capture, 4K recording, 1080P live output and AI-assisted tracking.
18Court separation
Portable modular divider barriersFreestanding linkable barrier panels can help manage stray balls and separate adjacent pickleball courts, training zones and event layouts.
19Indoor / event pathway
Professional roll + portable systemsIndoor halls and seasonal programmes can use professional indoor roll or portable PM-T / PM-S configurations.
20Portable court format
Usually several large rollsA full portable court is normally a multi-roll sports-flooring system. Four rolls is common and some layouts use five; portable means movable, removable and reusable rather than one small lightweight mat.
21Typical handling plan
2+ people or suitable handling aidsRepresentative portable rolls are often around 1.8–2.0 m wide and may weigh about 120–125 kg each. Exact roll count, packed dimensions and weights must be confirmed for the selected system before freight, unloading and storage are planned.
22Roll-out base requirement
Flat · hard · clean · dry · stableRoll-out flooring follows the substrate closely. Grass, gravel, soft ground and major unevenness are not suitable bases, and the mat does not create drainage.
23Deployment options
Temporary · semi-permanent · longer-termDaily pack-down is possible but can be labour intensive. A semi-permanent installation is often more practical for regular club, school and community programmes while retaining future removability.

Final installation suitability is subject to the existing base and site conditions. For important pickleball projects, an assembled sample area with the intended ball and footwear is recommended before the surface specification is frozen. Overseas conversion examples are useful independent planning precedents only; they do not imply that the cited organisations used or endorsed Apollo products.

Project fit

A pickleball venue can be scaled around the audience, existing asset and operating model.

Home courts

Practical surface and net packages for private courts where installation simplicity and maintenance matter.

Concrete subfloor preparation

Existing slabs should be checked for stability, flatness, cracks, contamination, moisture and drainage before flooring is selected. Mechanical grinding, repairs, primer or moisture control may be required depending on the system and site.

Dedicated PFO outdoor surface

PFO adds a continuous 3.0 mm outdoor pickleball pathway with a crystal-sand playing face, glass-fibre reinforced structure, foam buffer layer and anti-moving base for projects that want a dedicated pickleball surface rather than modular tile.

Indoor PVC competition + venue flooring

The dedicated Enlio indoor pickleball roll pathway uses a sand-feel surface over reinforced PVC construction, with 2.0 mm and 3.0 mm published thicknesses, custom-print capability and a manufacturer-published six-year service life.

Tennis-club conversions

Under-used hard courts can support staged pickleball expansion: begin with a pilot, portable nets and a clear programme, measure demand, then move to dedicated colour, fixed nets or additional courts when use is proven.

Schools + shared community use

A school facility can be planned for PE first and structured community access outside school use. Surface, supervision, access hours, equipment storage and responsibility should be considered together.

Councils + public recreation

Selective conversion can add dedicated pickleball capacity while retaining existing tennis or other recreation. Asset condition, booking model, neighbourhood effects and whole-of-life maintenance matter alongside court count.

Commercial venues

Indoor adaptive-reuse projects need more than flooring. Ceiling height, structure, egress, accessibility, acoustics, lighting, amenities and change-of-use requirements can control whether a larger paid-play venue is practical.

Portable court divider barriers

Freestanding modular barriers can separate adjacent courts, reduce stray-ball crossover and create temporary boundaries for clubs, schools, halls and event venues without committing to permanent fencing.

Bowling clubs

Redundant or lightly used land can create a pickleball pathway while active bowling greens remain intact. A permanent grass-green conversion requires removal and a suitable hard-base and drainage solution before the sports surface is selected.

Hospitality + resorts

Pickleball can be added as a guest amenity using project-specific flooring, nets, lighting and technology.

Custom colour matching

Selected roll-out pathways can be developed around project colour references rather than a small fixed palette. Pantone, RAL and CBCC / China Architectural Colour Card references can be used as a starting point, with final production colour confirmed before manufacture.

Portable does not mean effortless

Portable roll-out courts still need a handling crew or equipment, a clear delivery-to-court route, staging space, seam checks and realistic dry storage. For frequent programmes, semi-permanent installation can reduce repeated handling.
