New Field vs Resurfacing

A new sports field, a hard-base conversion and an existing synthetic-field replacement may use similar turf at the surface, but they require very different project information.

LUTHVAR Technical Guidance

Choose the project pathway first so the technical review focuses on the right risks and interfaces.

New field

A new-build project should coordinate levels, drainage, base construction, edge details, access and the surface system before procurement.

  • Survey and civil design
  • Drainage strategy
  • Base and tolerance requirements
  • Construction and delivery access
  • Line-marking and equipment interfaces

Hard-base conversion

Converting an existing hard court or slab requires review of levels, cracking, drainage, thresholds and whether the existing construction can support the proposed turf system.

Synthetic-field replacement

Replacement projects need information about the current turf, infill, shock pad, base, drainage and field performance.

  • Existing system and approximate age
  • Removal and recovery plan
  • Shock-pad reuse or replacement
  • Drainage condition
  • Historic test or certification information where relevant

Do not hide old defects

New turf should not be used to conceal unresolved settlement, drainage, cracking or base failures. Those problems usually return through the new surface.

Evidence stays tied to the exact construction.

Technical guidance explains the decision framework. Final dimensions, materials, test values, warranties, performance classifications and certification statements are confirmed only for the exact project system supported by current documentation.
