Operations

Maintenance & Lifecycle Planning

Artificial turf is not maintenance-free. The operating plan influences field performance, appearance, drainage and usable life, so it should be considered during system selection.

LUTHVAR Technical Guidance

Select a surface that the facility can realistically maintain with the people, equipment and budget available.

Routine cleaning

Leaves, litter, dust, organic material and other contamination should be removed before they become embedded in the surface or restrict drainage.

Fibre and infill management

Where applicable, brushing, grooming and infill redistribution help maintain fibre presentation and a more consistent surface.

  • Inspect high-use zones more often
  • Correct migration before it becomes severe
  • Use equipment compatible with the exact system

Seams, lines and edges

Regular inspection can identify lifting seams, damaged inlaid lines, edge movement or local wear before repairs become larger.

Drainage and contamination

A field that drains well when new can perform poorly if pores, infill or the surrounding drainage system become contaminated or blocked.

Lifecycle records

Keep installation information, maintenance records, repair history and test reports together. They are valuable when planning resurfacing or assessing whether lower layers may be retained.

Evidence stays tied to the exact construction.

Technical guidance explains the decision framework. Final dimensions, materials, test values, warranties, performance classifications and certification statements are confirmed only for the exact project system supported by current documentation.
